Peter Nicholls and Roger Baileff built their first steel boat in 1973.
Pretty soon the company was building nothing else and then, in 1979, they built
Seagull, their first boat for wide beam cruising of the Grand Union, Thames, Kennet
and Avon Canal and the Leeds Liverpool Canal. In 1987, Peter motored the boat
across the Channel to France and both families used Seagull extensively
for holidays on the French canals.

In 1990, Seagull was sold to an English couple who wanted to retire to France but
wanted to have the mobility of the boat. They sold the boat in 1994 and the new owners
still have Seagull moored as a holiday boat on the Canal du Nivernais in Burgundy.
